GuoGuang Opera Company restaged “The Golden Cangue” inspired by Eileen Chang’s renowned short story, The Rouge of the North.

The legacy of Sun Wukong, a monkey born from heavenly stone, is one of the main characters in Journey to the West, retold through Peking opera production, The Monkey King.

In only half an hour’s time, not only did audiences like me get to enjoy one-of-a-kind performance, we also learned about the basics of Peking opera.
