Surah Al-Qadr (Chapter 97 of the Quran) highlights the profound blessings and spiritual significance of Laylat Al-Qadr (The Night of Decree), the night when the first revelations of the Quran were revealed to Prophet Muhammad.

Created during Laylat al-Qadr, the artist transcribes the verses of this chapter as an act of contemplation and devotion. Written in the brush style of Sini script, the vertically arranged Arabic letters evoke the compositional traditions of Chinese calligraphy, while the use of gold ink on dark blue paper recalls the pages of the renowned Blue Quran, one of the most celebrated manuscripts of the early Islamic world.

The work is completed with wabiao, an intricate Chinese mounting method requiring exceptional precision, n which the calligraphic work is carefully fitted into a precisely cut opening within the silk brocade.

Through script, material, and spiritual expression, Surah Al-Qadr creates a dialogue between Islamic and East Asian artistic languages.
